NIGERIAN CHRISTIANS IN THE DIASPORA

Isa 62:6-7

“O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls;
they will pray day and night, continually.
Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord.
Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work,
until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth.” NLT

Dear Compatriots,

We bring you greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that this letter meets you well.

As you may be aware, Nigeria has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons: widespread insecurity, bombings and killings by Boko Haram mainly targeting churches and Christians; widespread corruption and fraud; high unemployment resulting in frustration and crime among the youths; falling educational standards; prevalence of ritual killings and occultism; kidnap and rape, just to mention a few. The CIA and other western organisations had predicted that Nigeria may be a failed state by 2015. Unfortunately, events are conspiring to bring this negative prophecy to pass!

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), having realised the delicate situation that Nigeria is facing and in particular, the threat against the Church, has called for a one year sustained prayer for Nigeria’s transformation. All the major Church leaders have endorsed this project and Christians are being mobilised across the nation to participate.

Even the government has realised that Nigeria’s problems require divine intervention. Successive administrations have tried (even if half-heartedly) to solve the nation’s problems but left it worse than they met it. No wonder that the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has endorsed this project and formally declared the commencement of the one year prayer project on the 30th of October, 2012 during the Independence Anniversary Church Service.

We are therefore extending this call to you as people who share destiny with us. What is primarily in contention is Nigeria’s destiny; what is at stake is God’s prophetic agenda for our nation. There is a conspiracy of evil to frustrate these but we know that genuine repentance and concerted prayers by God’s people can save Nigeria (2 Chronicles 7:14).

This website has been developed in this regard: www.pray4nigeria.org. Please visit the site regularly and get more information about this project. There is a daily prayer guide with prayer points covering different aspects of our nation. You would find them helpful. There are other resources available on the website.

We are using this medium to invite you to participate in this move to transform Nigeria. Kindly enlist your prayer group, church and people within your sphere of influence. You may adopt a day in the month that you specifically devote to praying for Nigeria.

We trust that you will respond to this call. We believe that though you are not in the country, you would do what it will take to see a nation that you and your children can be proud of.

Post Script: We have extended the Year of Prayer for a further year to the end of September 2014.  Please continue to unite with us in prayer.

May God richly bless you.

Yours truly

For the One Year of Prayer for National Transformation team
