Some Personal Comments and Suggestions from Moses Gbenu
Dear Intercessors,
We want to appreciate your prayer burdens, labour and prayer investments for the nation and particularly for the just concluded Presidential elections in Nigeria.
First, we must thank the Lord for the relative peace we enjoyed during and after these elections. In a state like like Portharcourt, we heard of certain politicians alleged to have gone berserk to manipulate or resist manipulations and the burning of INEC office in the state. We also had places like Gombe/Bauchi or so where some terrorists killed some voters. Altogether, about 50 people were reported to have been killed just before and during the election. Generally, however, the atmosphere has been generally peaceful throughout Nigeria, even in the North East where war is going on against the Islamic insurgents.
Brethren, we wish to remind you of the prophecy of Cindy Jacobs in 2005. Cindy quoted the Lord as saying, “This is a nation I love… In ten years time, there will be a great transformation in Nigeria and the nations of the world will be attracted to her.” Many will seek to do business with her.’ …(Quoted in: Rebuilding the Walls of Nigeria: God’s Purpose For The Nation, by Moses Aransiola, 2013, P.45).
This prophecy was given in 2005. She said, “In ten years time.” This pointed to 2015. 2015 has come. President Jonathan has started a massive TRANSFORMATION AGENDA in the past 2 years. As the servant of the Lord prophesied a great transformation in 2015, the enemies of Nigeria also ‘prophesied’ that Nigeria it is in 2015 that Nigeria would be a failed state. We believe this is one of the reasons why this election was so significant and tough. That could be the reason why there was much contention in the spirit realm over the election? Forces of darkness were contending with the purpose of God for the hour. But the church of God was divided to know what exactly is the mind of God.
Here we are: 2015. God says a major transformation is beginning this year. We must pray that whatever good programmes President Goodluck Jonathan has started in his Transformation Agenda will not be truncated by the coming government as it is usually done in Nigeria. Anytime a new government comes in, especially, from an opposing political party, the new government tends to abandon whatever good programmes or projects the former government embarked upon and starts their own afresh. This is one major thing that has impeded development in this country.
We need to thank God also for the enthusiasm of the electorates to participate fully. Some voters were patient from morning till night when the voting was over. Some of them brought a generator and contributed money to buy fuel to light the polling or collation centres.
You must realize that it was you’re the prayer initiatives of the intercessors that defused the war tension in the land. It was prayer that led to the postponement of the election which was a major thing God has used to defuse the tension in the nation.
As for the result of the Presidential election, we believe God was in charge. First, we must realize that sometimes, God may not impose a leader on a nation. People may decide whom they want either by ignorance or false propaganda they have chosen to believe. If they choose a wrong leader, they suffer for it eventually and learn a lesson.
On the other hand, when God allows someone to be elected as leader, especially, when His people have prayed, He would still keep an eye on the man. God will guard His plan for Nigeria. Those of us who opposed a Buhari presidency did so not because he is Hausa/Fulani or a Northerner. It is not even so much because he is a Muslim. Our major concern about who leads Nigeria has been on a person’s interest in the Islamic agenda for Nigeria. For us, this is more Important than financial corruption.
We are very confident that whoever comes to lead Nigeria and makes any attempt to implement any Islamic agenda will pay for this. God has done it many times before and He is still on His throne and ready to do it again and again.
Moreover, we have some genuine reasons to believe that if Buhari had lost this election, he would have incited his people for violence, believing he has been cheated again. The nation may be engulfed in a civil conflagration. I believe God therefore may have allowed him to win to give the nation peace.
One major achievement of the stiff opposition and competition in this election is that whoever wins must know he cannot lead with whatever hidden agenda the person may have before the election.
If President Jonathan had won this election, he knows leadership of avarice in Abuja would no longer continue as usual. Moreover, if God is permitting Buhari to lead at the moment, Buhari knows that he can no longer insist on whatever Islamic agenda he had as he promised in 2001 and his attempts in 1983. We have no apology for our opposition and position on Buhari’s utterances and history of his nationwide Sharia. By this hot opposition he received from many of us and a section of the press, Buhari knows all eyes are on him, his pronouncements and actions from now as it concerns his policies.
Apart from any Ishmaelite agenda, this election was a national protest against President Jonathan’s way of handling the Boko Haram insurgency in the North, especially, the lack of urgency in responding to the kidnap of 200 girls who are still untraceable till today.
We must know that when we pray, we must also give room for God’s sovereignty. We know in part and we prophesy in part. Even if the enemy seems to have prevailed, God has a way of using His enemies to effect His plans. We believe God will use this man to effect certain things. But we must be confident that when he begins to tamper with God’s plan, God has a way of handling such people.
We need to continue to pray to uphold the purpose of God for the land. We have not lost anything. I believe the loss of Jonathan is a sacrifice to save Nigeria from nationwide bloodbath and perhaps disintegration.
God is aware of all the prayer investments and sacrifices of the intercessors in and outside Nigeria, and He will certainly reward us all. But it is not yet Uhuru (celebration or independence). That is, we must continue to pray. We may not have arrived at the end of the issues involved. The enemy is mad that we are not fighting now.
Jesus is Lord in Nigeria.
