Prayer Guide

Day 19 - The Family

`This is the bedrock and foundation of society; a strategic and divine institution. It is God's solution to the problems of humanity. If the family is godly, the nation will be godly and vice versa.

• Pray to God to give wisdom to Nigerians to have children they can raise, feed, clothe, educate and spiritually nurture in the way of the Lord. Pray for godly parenting in families.

• Pray against divorce, separation, broken homes and single parenting.

• Pray against the spirit of Achan and Gehazi that caused them to destroy their entire families by stealing and lying.

• Pray against satanic attacks on families through money matters, poor communication, unforgiveness, unfaithfulness and immorality, lack of love, selfishness etc.
.
• Pray God to make mothers as fruitful vines in their homes. Pray that they be godly and virtuous women who bring joy to their homes, (Prov. 31).

• Pray God to make fathers as valiant men, i.e. men of valour, men who play their spiritual roles, providers, pillars, protectors, etc.

• Pray against pervasion of family values like gay, incest, pedophiles, teenage pregnancy and abortions.

Day 18 - Insecurity in the Nation

`Nigeria is presently facing monumental security issues occasioned by terrorist activities of Boko Haram. From 2002 to date this group has killed no fewer than 12,000 people, majorly Christians and burning hundreds of Churches. Most of their Christian targets that refuse to renounce their faith are hacked to death.

In February 2014, 59 students (all boys) of Federal Government College, Bunu Yadi, Yobe State, were shot to death in their hostels while asleep. In April, 2014, 276 girls from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State were kidnapped from their hostels. Of this number, 219 are still in captivity while some escaped from their captors. On June 15, 2014, Improvised Explosive Devices were found in Winners Chapel, Owerri. A day after, 486 persons travelling in 35 buses were arrested in Abia State with 87 identified as Boko Haram members and a wanted Boko Haram kingpin in their midst.

There are also reports of high ranking military officers selling arms and classified military intelligence to this terrorist group. This has compromised military efforts leading to high deaths amongst soldiers and other untold hardships. Nigeria is today number 1 on the global Christian persecution list with Boko Haram standing as the world number 2 terrorist group next to the Talibans.

• Cry unto the LORD to arise over Nigeria. That for the sake of His name and glory, He should not allow His Church to suffer reproach.

• Ask God to confound Boko Haram, their sponsors and sympathizers.

• Ask God to unmask all persons behind Boko Haram.

• Pray that all persons sabotaging military efforts should be exposed and judged.

• Pray for the immediate release of the remaining 219 girls still in captivity. Ask God to give them the courage and will to withstand all difficulties. Pray that their faith in Jesus should not fail.

• Ask God to console and strengthen families still awaiting the release of their daughters. Pray that they find confidence and hope in God.

• Ask God to comfort and strengthen northern Christians facing persecution. Ask God to provide, protect and preserve His children. Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon them for a continued fellowship with God.

• Pray God to enable northern Christians to have access to the Bible in the midst of persecutions.

• Ask God to give our government the courage to face Boko Haram head on. Also ask God to help our armed forces overcome Boko Haram.

• Ask God for a genuine fight against this group by neighbouring countries and the western forces deployed to Nigeria.

• Ask God to cause peace, unity and love to manifest amongst all people of various religious backgrounds, tribes and ethnic groups, (Psa.72:6-7).

• Ask God to send the angel He sent to destroy 185, 000 troops of Sennacherib to destroy the enemies of the nation of Nigeria, (Isaiah37:36). Pray that they be looked for and not be found anymore and that their wickedness come to an end, (Psa.7:10; 35:4-6).

• Ask the Lord to give wisdom to our President, Ministers, Lawmakers and Judicial officers to establish policies to improve our economy, create jobs, etc. Pray that the government puts proper infrastructures in place and that they lead the nation in righteousness to reduce crime rate in our society. Pray for a bridging of the gap between the rich and the poor to eliminate the vices.

• Pray for better funding of our security agencies for improved security of life and properties of citizens. Pray God to protect His children in the midst of all the lapses in our security network. (Psalm 91; 79:11; 102:20; 23:4; 121; Jer. 50:33, 34).

• The threat by certain persons from the north that blood will flow if power does not return to the north by 2015 is most likely to cause religious and political crisis. Pray the Lord to give the president wisdom to manage such threats and people as this. Pray that where arrests, prosecution and imprisonment needed to be made it should be made.

Day 17 - Police and other Security Agencies

`We cannot talk about the Rule of Law when there is no effective law enforcement agency like the police. Nigeria will be transformed when we have laws that are properly enforced without respect to persons.

• Pray for an improved standard to be set in recruiting police officers. Pray that those in charge of recruitment exercises be honest in the discharge of their duties.

• Pray for proper funding and provision of necessary items like vehicles, weapons, uniforms, training, etc by the government. Also pray for a befitting enumeration and a good housing scheme for the police force.

• Pray God to purge the police force of officers and men of bad character. Pray God to expose those in the police force who refuse to turn a new leaf.

• Reverse all curses people have pronounced on our police officers and men by pronouncing blessings, protection and righteousness on them. The act of cursing men and officers of the police is contrary to God's word, (1Tim 2:1-4).

• Ask the Holy Spirit to move among our police men and women to convict them of sins so that they may be drawn to the Lord in repentance. Also pray that they do their work with the fear of the Lord and professionalism.

Day 16 - Prisoners and Our Prison System

The prison is supposed to be a correctional facility to make prisoners better upon their release. But the reverse is the case in our nation as criminals become more hardened even while serving out their sentences.

• Pray God to raise a godly company of Nigeria Prisons Service staff who will see their work as a ministry and, thus, reach out to these inmates in love with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

• Ask the Lord to touch our comptrollers and other top officials of the Internal Affairs ministry to implement policies and reforms for improved prison conditions. Pray for more prisons to be built and properly maintained. Also pray against embezzlement of funds by prisons officials.

• Pray God to move in our judicial system to speed up trials to decongest our prisons.

• Ask the Lord to burden churches, ministries and believers to get involved in prisons visitation. Pray that the hearts of Christians be filled with love and compassion for prison inmates. Pray God to give prison inmates repentant hearts. Ask God to give the Church a definite strategy to witness and disciple those who come to the knowledge of the LORD.

• Pray that our prisons truly become places of correction and reforms.

Day 15 - Agriculture

Research has shown that given proper attention, agriculture can make Nigeria economically great and prosperous nation. God has endowed us with abundant and fertile land, tropical weather, good species of fruits, vegetables, crops, etc.

• Recent reports show increase harvests by farmers nationwide occasioned by sound government policies. Pray for this trend to continue.

• Bind the fertility goddess that people worship instead of Jehovah El Shaddai and cast it out of our agricultural sector. The goddess is called Orisa Oko in Yorubaland, and it is worshipped at new yam festivals in Iboland.

• Pray that all the wicked and corrupt officials in the agriculture sector, i.e. parastatals and ministries be exposed and judged, if they do not repent, (Zech 5:1-4, Jer17:11).

• Break all satanic covenants made with the land by our forefathers and evil covenants made by farmers with ancestral gods, fertility gods, and occultic demons, (They do this for a bounteous and abnormally quick harvest). Break curses arising from such evil covenants, (Gal. 3:1).

• Pronounce God's judgment upon the water spirit that afflicts our land and our agricultural sector. Let the voice of the Lord be as judgment over them, (Is 27:1, Ezek29:2-5; Ps 29:3-9)

• Pray the Lord to stir up the hearts of our lawmakers to pass a law mandating the Federal government, the 36 state governments, the FCT and the 774 local governments to embark on mechanized farming within the next one year.

• Pray the Holy Spirit to brood over the officials involved in this sector that they operate by the spirit of wisdom and understanding, counsel and might, knowledge and the fear of the Lord, (Gen1:2, and Isa.11:2).

• Pray the Lord to transform the dry bones situation in the agriculture sector causing His breath to bring alive all that was dead, (Ezek37:1-14 and Joel2:18-26).

• Pray God to expose corrupt farmers who cultivate drug plants (marijuana) and those who do not utilize federal government financial assistance rightly.

Day 14 - Inter-Tribal Clashes

Even though we are all Nigerians, there are tribes always engaged in inter- tribal clashes and killing of one another. For Example, the Ifes and Modakekes in Osun State, the Ezillos and Ezzas in Ebonyi State, the Tivs and Fulanis in Nasarawa, Plateau and Benue States.

• Pray against the spirit of hatred, division, greed, Magog, anger, unforgiveness, bloodshed, etc. Bind these spirits and territorial powers behind these violent clashes and cast them out.

• Pray for brotherly love to continue, (Hebrews 13:1) Pray the Holy Spirit to move over these warring tribes bringing God's kind of love upon them.

• Pray to God to give wisdom to the governors of the affected states to mediate between the warring tribes and settle the disputes, which usually cause these conflicts.

• Pray for the spirit of forgiveness, unity, love, togetherness, and one accord to manifest among these tribes.

Day 13 - Election and Democratic Governance

Rigged elections, corruption and violence during electioneering campaigns and election days are problems that hinder true democratic governance in Nigeria and these happen despite billions of naira spent organizing these elections. The result is that those announced as winners are not the ones voted by the people. And all this is because of electoral malpractices. 2015 elections are a few months away and there is already tension in the polity occasioned by unguarded and selfish utterances.

Pray for 2015 elections:-

• Let us thank God for the successful June 21, 2014 gubernatorial elections in Ekiti State where the sitting governor conceded defeat to his opponent. Pray that this election, which has been described as free, fair, and peaceful and a true reflection of the wishes of the electorates by local and international monitors, should be replicated and improved upon in subsequent elections.

• Pray God to enable the electorates to shun bribes and all other electoral vices. Ask God to make Nigerians steadfast and never fall into the temptation to sell their votes.

• Pray that INEC should be an impartial and incorruptible electoral body

• Pray that security agencies be properly equipped to bring unruly people to order and particularly political thugs.

• Pray God to lead the electorates to vote into political offices people who are able, love the truth, fear God and who hate covetousness, (Exodus 18: 21).

• Pray God to give us leaders with a shepherd's heart; who will lead us with integrity of heart and skillfulness, (Psalm 78: 72).

• Pray God to give us men after His own heart; who have not soiled their hands with blood in the place of occultism (i.e. human rituals).

• Pray God to give us leaders who will not take or give bribe but walk uprightly and speak the truth always, (Psalm 15: 2 – 5).

• Pray God to prepare men and women such as these before the elections so that wicked men and women are voted out through the ballot boxes.

• Pray that Nigeria experiences free and fair elections now to 2015 and beyond.

• Pray God to give us violent free elections now to 2015 and beyond.

• Pray God to upturn all plots by APC if their hidden agenda is to Islamize Nigeria. Also pray God to purge corruption in the opposition.

Day 12 - The Church

Nigeria has been adjudged the most churched nation in Africa and the world. However, as the church is increasing numerically, so there is increased pollution through worldliness, materialism, immorality and mammon.

• Ask that the Lord raises prophets like Elijah, (2Kings 17:1) to speak out against the abominations in the church and in the land.

• Ask the Holy Spirit to move over the church and the nation of Nigeria convicting hearts of the people of sins, (John 16:8; Psalm 51:1 – 7). Pray against materialism and merchandising of the anointing, (John 2: 14 – 16).

• Take authority and pray against religious spirit, spirit of immorality, mammon, occultism, witchcraft, lukewarmness, prayerlessness, worldliness, worship of men of God, sinfulness, divisions, etc.

Day 11 - Media

  • • Pray against every stronghold the devil has established through the media on people's minds as many lives are impacted through newspapers, radio, magazines, television, home videos, billboards, internet, etc. (2Cor. 10:3 – 5).

    • Pray that publications in newspapers and magazines and programmes in our radio, television and internet be godly, moral, educative, inspiring, etc.

Youths are the strength and future of a nation and there is need to invest in them - ethics, values, character and education. Statistics has it that 45%- 48% of our population are youths.

• Bind the spirit of witchcraft, rebellion, violence, pornography, lawlessness, mammon, laziness, etc reigning over our youths. Pray and release the youths of this nation from the influence of these spirits, (Isa. 49:24-26).

• Pray that the Lord rides on a swift cloud into our primary and secondary schools, Polytechnics, Universities and other institutions and into the hearts of our youths. Pray commanding all oppressive demons to tremble at His presence. Pray to God to break and convict the hearts of these young ones with the things that break His Heart, (Psalm 51:17; Isaiah 19:1).

• With the kidnap of the Chibok girls and killing of 59 students in FGC, Bunu Yadi, primary and secondary school children now live in fear and some may not return to school.
